Digital inclusion
There are digital tools and technologies that can help people with disabilities to be more independent and fulfilled in our society. The Center works daily to make them available to all.
Inclusive accessibility
The Centre's work contributes to greater social justice. People with disabilities have inherent limitations. Putting adapted tools and technologies at their disposal can help re-establish a degree of equity, and a better way of living together.
Introducing the center
The Inclusive multimedia center of CJARC is a framework dedicated to the learning and use of information and communication technologies accessible to disabled people in general and visually impaired people in particular. The center is located in Yaoundé, Cameroon, at CJARC's head office at Ekié chambre froide. The building named CENI houses the center on its second floor.
It's an accessible space, with state-of-the-art equipment and qualified staff, able to meet the many expectations of its target audience. The center's main aim is to promote digital access to information, culture and education for people with disabilities.
a word from the general manager
Since 2002, CJARC has been celebrating International White Cane Day with a theme chosen in conjunction with those involved in supporting visually impaired people. Depending on the theme, this celebration is often placed under the patronage of one or more ministerial departments.
In 2016, CJARC celebrated its 36th .ème edition of the International White Cane Day under the theme “Canne Blanche: A tool for inclusion, access to employment and ICTs to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”. This celebration was placed under the co-patronage of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. At the ceremony to launch the activities of this edition on October 10, 2016, Madame le Ministre des Postes et des Télécommunications had promised to offer CJARC an inclusive multimedia center.
If the white cane is the eye of the blind, ICTs represent a revolution for the visually impaired. Various digital tools have been created with the sole aim of making ICT accessible to the visually impaired. Today, for the visually impaired, ICT represents a tool for easy access to information, education and culture, as well as an employment opportunity.
The establishment of such a center within CJARC, with the support of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, comes at just the right time. At a time of growing demand, CJARC will be equipped with a suitable setting, state-of-the-art equipment and qualified staff to meet the various demands. More disabled people in general, and the visually impaired in particular, as well as organizations and businesses, will now know where to turn for all matters relating to ICT accessibility.
